Discover Portugal Holidays has designed some Self Drive Itineraries for those travelers who prefer to visit Portugal in an independent way. These are rent-a-car + accommodation solutions, with suggested itineraries and overnight stay suggestions by us, thinking about our client's interests and schedules. These self-drive tours are designed based on our deep knowledge of Portugal and they have the purpose of being easy to explore by a first-time visitor to Portugal. Although we believe that a map is enough for our clients to discover our country, if you wish we can also add a GPS to your rented car ( which does take a lot of the stress out of navigating.)

 

We have designed two kinds of Self-Drive Tours: one suited for the "Explorer Traveller", who wants to visit more spots in his route through Portugal and, another for the "Slow-Pace Traveller" that prefers to stay more time at a location in wonderful accommodation resting and getting to know more deeply each region. Of course any itinerary can be tailor-made to your specific request, by advising us. We can start a new itinerary to you or, we can also make a change on each proposed itinerary. If you prefer alternative accommodation, we can also change it. Another important advantage of these self-drive tours is that you can change the day itinerary in real time, as you will already be in Portugal. However you know that you'll always have your accommodation booked for that night and this is where you must end your day. Regarding your accommodation, we carefully selected two hotel levels for the Explorer Itineraries: both are very good but,  we call the first Level A which is the most charming experience you may find in the area you'll overnight. Level B is a quality hotel for those who wish to spend less but also know that a comfortable hotel is essential for a memorable holiday. Just browse through our proposals and you'll easily understand our accommodation classification. For the Slow-Pace Itineraries, since the idea is to stay more time and be delighted with each accommodation stay, there is no reason to offer different hotel levels. Finally, if you need pre and post tour arrangements (more nights accommodation, guided tours, golf, etc) you can also ask us to add these to your personalized self-Drive tour.

Day 1 - 3: Departure to Óbidos, Nazaré, Alcobaça, Batalha, Fatima and Coimbra

Day 3: Departure to Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira

Day 4 - 5: Departure to Valença, Braga and Guimarães

Day 6: Departure to Vila Real, Régua and Marialva

Day 7: Departure to Guarda, Castelo de Vide and Marvão

Day 8: Departure to Estremoz, Évora, Monsaraz and Reguengos

Day 9: Visit to Herdade do Esporão and departure to Algarve

Day 12: Departure to Arrábida Mountain range and return to Lisbon
